Vaiyapuri Pillai. The lexicon contains 59,170 numbered entries spanning more than 3,800 pages of the original print edition.

தமிழ்மொழி உலகின் தொன்மையான செம்மொழிகளுள் ஒன்றாகும். இரண்டாயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலான வரலாற்றைக் கொண்ட இம்மொழி, இலக்கியம், தத்துவம், அறிவியல், கலை எனப் பல துறைகளில் தனக்கென உயரிய பாரம்பரியத்தைக் கொண்டுள்ளது.
செம்மொழித் தமிழாய்வு மத்திய நிறுவனம், இந்தத் தமிழ்ப் பாரம்பரியத்தை ஆராய்தல், பேணுதல், புதிய தலைமுறையினருக்குக் கடத்துதல் ஆகியவற்றைத் தனது தலையாய பணிகளாகக் கொண்டுள்ளது. இம்முயற்சியின் ஒரு பகுதியாக, சென்னைப் பல்கலைக்கழகம் 1924–1939 ஆண்டுகளில் வெளியிட்ட தமிழ்ச் சொற்பேரகராதி இப்போது ஆராய்ச்சியாளர்கள், மாணவர்கள், மொழியன்பர்கள் அனைவரும் பயனடையும் வகையில் எண்ம வழியில் நிறுவனத்தால் வெளியிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

Tamil is one of the world's oldest classical languages. With a history extending over more than two thousand years, it has cultivated a distinguished heritage across literature, philosophy, science, and the arts.
The Central Institute of Classical Tamil has taken as its foremost duties the research, preservation, and transmission of this Tamil heritage to new generations. As part of this endeavour, the Tamil Lexicon — published by the University of Madras between 1924 and 1939 — has now been released by the Institute in digital form, so that researchers, students, and all lovers of the language may benefit from it.
It is my sincere hope that, through this resource, you will come to know the profound treasury of Tamil thought and find lasting benefit from it.
